Really, Michelle? This is the first time?

We should all be concerned when a would-be First Lady says she has “never really been proud of my country until now.” It is a warning about how radical an Obama presidency would be.

At a campaign rally in Madison, Wis., on Monday, the wife of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., declared: “Let me tell you something. For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country.”

An editorial in Investors Business Daily comments:

Is ignorance the culprit here, or is it ingratitude — or perhaps an unhealthy mix of the two?

Michelle Obama was born in 1964, so her adulthood began in 1982. Is there really nothing about America she could think of to be proud of over the past quarter-century? How about the way firefighters, EMT personnel, police and ordinary people sacrificed to help each other in the aftermath of 9/11?

Maybe she forgot about the billions we gave in charity after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami killed hundreds of thousands and left homeless over a million more, contributions dwarfing those of other countries — including hundreds of millions of dollars from those evil American corporations.

She may have been unaware that the U.S. military mobilized an aircraft carrier battle group and dispatched numerous strategic and tactical airlifters, plus dozens of Navy and Marine Corps helicopters, in efforts that ranged from search-and-rescue to disaster relief. The Navy also deployed the 1,000-bed hospital ship USNS Mercy.

By the way, a quick look at the census life expectancy tables show that American blacks in 1982 could expect to live just 69.4 years. Due to improvements in medicine and greater access to care, today it’s 74 years of expected life. She’s not proud of that?

Even if she was unaware of all this, which is highly unlikely, shouldn’t the fact that a black woman from the south side of Chicago can graduate from two Ivy League schools itself be enough to make Mrs. Obama proud of such a country?

The fact that it doesn’t indicates a radical mind-set that does not appreciate what makes America great — and a presidency that would be destructive of the country’s greatness.

We need to be very concerned about an Obama Presidency. Aside from being the most liberal Senator in the Senate, he and his wife are radicals who believe in European-type socialism. Further, because of his inexperience in foreign policy, he is relying on foreign policy advisors who have been notoriously anti-Israel and sympathetic to the “oppressed” Palestinians. Warning! Danger Ahead!

  2. Be very, very worried! Obama’s campaign and Hillary’s for that matter, are using buzz words: Change, Hope, Help, taxes, rich and now we can add Proud to be an American to that list. Obama is targeting an audience who are struggling financially and no basic understanding of government. Many do not follow the news and only hear sound bites and formulated opinions from the reporter.

These voters need to educate themselves before they vote, before they select a party of which they want to become associated with. The voters need to realize that it is not the governments responsibility to bring hope to people. It is a personal responsibility to get an education and further your career in order to solve your own financial problems without a handout from the government.

Michelle’s comments were actually said twice. This was a calculated move, in my opinion. It suggests to the unsuspecting voter that if you vote for Obama you can then be proud of your country. These are voters who have been in financial distress and are blaming the war and economy and the government on their own personal problems.

  3. As we progress down the path towards the likely possibility of BHO being a viabale Dem nominee, I find it very difficult to comprehend the desire to have us all thinking alike, and how BHO will do that for the country.

The foundation of this nation has it’s roots in vigorous debate and differences of opinion. Why, all of a sudden, after almost 7 years of claims of “mind-numbed robots” on the right of the political spectrum, is it now the time to all unite and follow one man.

Scary, especially for a man with no record of significant accomplishment and who hasn’t held any job besides being involved with interacting with law. No leadership, no execution, no actual vision that he, nor his supporters can share.

A few weeks ago, Rush made the observation that “hope” is waiting for someone else to do it for you. Desire is getting out there and doing it. I concur. Now, further on “hope,” hope for what? He will give me hope that he will better my economic position by what? Keeping jobs in America? Nope…nothing like that. Putting more in my pocket to spend by cutting taxes? Nope…no plan here, either…except we can not hope, but expect less money in our accounts because he will take it for the world to spend, so he can have a legacy of charity…

    Gee, thanks, BHO.

  4. It’s all empty propaganda used to excite the voters. Obama did an excellent job at getting the voters energized and they don’t have a clue what they’re in for. Sean Hannity asked a group of voters to name one thing that BHO accomplished. One person answered: aaahhhh and the other answered: I like his foreign policy, the remainder of voters in the room kept their mouths shut, at a loss for words I would imagine.

Obama gave them the impression that he will end the war. What he’s actually saying is, I pull troops out of Iraq, what that actually means is… he will send the troops to Afganistan.

What does he accomplish by saying this? He gets the votes of people who want to end the war, they are tricked into thinking that by pulling troops out of Iraq the war will end. He also gets the votes of the swing voters, the ones who believe we are fightening the wrong war and the only target is OBL. Get OBL and all our problems are solved (their thinking).

Obama can get away with this now, at least until Hillary is eliminated. Then bring on McCain and the RNC. McCain will call Obama on every defense, economic and social issue on the table.

Obama is their new Messaih and his voters are being hypnotized by his hollow words.
