The Momentum Appears To Be Building — Not!

The BBC (along with the rest of MSM, it must be said) are busy cheering for the assorted moonbats who paraded through Washington yesterday. Here’s a sample of their reporting:

Tens of thousands of protesters have demonstrated in Washington to demand the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.
[…]
[Jane] Fonda was joined by fellow actors Sean Penn and Tim Robbins.
Robbins said: “What we need is courage, courage and conviction and we need people to represent the voice of the American people, a very clear voice last November, a voice that said: ‘We’re done with this war’.”

Robbins also said that GW would end his Presidency in a bunker, like Hitler. But, since that statement makes him sound like a raving madman, it’s easy to see why the BBC chose not to pick up on it.

Still, the relevant point is — What? That since the Treason Party seized control of Congress, support for the anti-war movement has grown? Certainly, this is what the BBC would like us to believe (they were leading broadcast versions of this story with the words ‘the momentum appears to be building’), but, if true, you’d really think the numbers would bear such an assessment out. They don’t.

Dan Riehl does the maths so MSM don’t have to:

Organizers expected hundreds of thousands of protesters. Early reports are indicating tens of thousands may have showed up. But the real problem for the anti-war movement is this from Talk Left almost four years ago to the day.

The Denver Post is calling it ” the largest war protest since Vietnam”–in huge letters, on the front page. Good for them.
Intervention Magazine has this first hand account by senior editor Regis T. Sabol, which begins:
From the grounds in front of the US Capitol, on the Mall, a sea of a quarter million Americans — regardless of the number that the networks are reporting — braved biting cold under a beaming sun to oppose the Bush regime’s plan to invade Iraq “any day now.”

Riiight. So, on the eve of Iraq’s liberation, moonbats managed to get a quarter of a million protesters on the streets? Yet, this week, they’d hoped for ‘hundreds of thousands’? But, in reality, what they got were tens of thousands? Well, damn, but even if you’re kind enough to allow for a turnout in the higher ‘tens’ (some people are putting it much lower), that still means support for the anti-war movement has collapsed by at least two-thirds in three years.

It’s hardly a success story, is it lefties?

Of course, MSM avoid mentioning this fact even in passing … Which is strange when you consider how often they draw our attention to failing support for the WoT in Congress.

But. Still. At least the rest of Big Media managed to stay on-topic. We mean, ask them to do a story on an anti-war protest and that’s exactly what they hand-in. Not so the BBC, the bottom half of whose report on a protest in Washington strangely mutates into an … um … report on Iraq itself:

Violence continued in Iraq on Saturday:

  • At least 15 people were killed and 55 injured when twin suicide car bomb attacks struck a market in the mainly Shia New Baghdad district
  • Iraqi police said eight computer firm employees were kidnapped by men in police uniforms in central Baghdad
  • The US military said it had killed 14 suspected insurgents during an air strike on a building used as a hideout south of Baquba
  • The US military announced the death of seven more soldiers. Three were killed by a roadside bomb north of Baghdad on Saturday, two by roadside bombs in Diyala province on Friday and two by a bomb in east Baghdad on Thursday.

And, just in case anyone doesn’t get this rather obvious endorsement of America’s (collapsing) anti-war movement, al-Beeb also lay-on a little death-porn:

These people aren’t even trying to hide their bias anymore, are they?
