Amerikan Turk, plenty of films have American villians in them. Lethal Weapon comes to mind instantly, for example. What is pissing us off is the OUTRIGHT lies that are being taken for TRUTH in turkey.

See the difference now?

Please try not to throw the baby out with the bath water. As a Turk born in the US, I can inform you that there is a big difference in attitude between the 'Amerikan Turks' (mis-spelled deliberately) and the 'Turkish Americans' (newcomers from Turkey). The prevailing attitude here suggests that everyone believes this film was created by the Turkish government or that it was commissioned by Nazis. Of course you realize that it was made by a company in the business of making money. Read my recent take on this and I think you will get my drift. By the way, for those of us who haven't seen the film to criticize those who have, is like putting the cart before the horse. I haven't seen it myself, but it isn't rocket science to understand that there are valid albeit incorrect reasons for the film's popularity and success. Most notably, the best selling book "Metal Storm". It's amusing that many people are all bent out of shape when Americans are depicted as the villians, for a change.

Fair enough and I'm sorry.

I don't doubt for a second that Turkey is a great country and i understand from those a lot more in the know then me that they have been a legitamite ally in the GWOT.

I'm just concerned that the entire Muslim world is headed into the pooper and we'll have to pull up the drawbridges and ride out their descent into barbarism.

I think it's running about fifty-fifty right now and that right there is enough to scare me.

Please don't take the Lord's name in vain.

You are right I don't know why they are reading the book and I suspect that not all of them are reading it because they are interested in WWII or the fine points of political speech. They have a growing problem with fundamentalists. I don't know if it is that their numbers are increasing or if they are just more active in making their presence known. However, Turkey is by and large a neat country filled with some pretty nice people. My husband and I vacationed there in December 2004. The few people that we had the chance to talk with at lenght acknowledged a problem with religious sects in the southwest area and the papers there discussed the problem. They are fairly secular in their approach to government even though the population is overwhelmingly Muslim. I like Turkey but saying that doesn't mean I am blind to their problems. They definitely have some. I just hope that anti American sentiment does not become the norm rather than the exception.

I would like to see this movie for myself.

Fair enough Carol,

I used the "This just in" ironically. It's also less than a year old so I doubt much anything's changed over there.

Also, when was the last time "Mein Kaumpf" was a bestseller in the civilized world? Are you really going to argue you think that has no bearing?

Read the goddamned quote! they think it was a tragedy that Hitler wasn't able to finish his "final solution." Are you insane? Are YOU sad Hitler wasn't able to finish his final solution?

The point isn't that you've read the book, but why you read the book. You read it to debate the fine points of political speech. Is that why they're reading it over there?

I don't know and neither do you!

Also,

You don't indicate the date the articles were printed from which you obtained these excerpts. With respect to the blurb on Mein Kampf being a bestseller Turkey you wrote "this just in" making it appear this is recent news. Its not. That little tidbit dates from around the early part of 2005 and Turkey banned a second or repreinting of the book around September of 2005.

In any event reading the book does not mean you are a card carrying NAZI, a sympathizer or merely antisemitic. Heck I've read the book and I gave a copy of it to my son for his birthday. Our interest in the book stems from an interest in WWII the European theater. The book is a facinating study of Hitler's use of slogans and proverbial sayings to influence thinking and woo Germany. I once read an article which described it as a "political smoke-screen of phrases". The guy was a master at it. I think it is one of the reasons why I now find such machinations of language to be so distasteful.

Yep Tina kender pretty much summed it up. If you actually bother to read the post, yes I gently chide these asshats for their grammar, but I save the big guns for their insane hatred of Jews and just general Muslim asshattedness.

Did you read the post. Are you cool with "Mein Kaumpf" being a best seller in Turkey? Are you cool with honor killings? Please, take a deep breath, release the multicultural bullshit that is preventing your brain from functioning properly and say with Jake.

"Not all cultures are created equal!"

Also, thank you, you're goddamned right I'm an American and I apologize to no one for that little detail.

Also, If you'd bothered to read the post, I specifically mention that I don't care if they hate us, make fun of us or cast us as the bad guy. What I do care about is they then naturally move from that to Holocaust type speech toward Jews. Again, are you cool with that?

I ain't!

tina? US, eher at the Wide Awakes "make mock" of non native speakers?

No....we "make mock" of the stupid ideas that non native speakers drop in the comments sections of our sites. I wouldn't dream of going to a site and leaving a comment in a language I am not certain I can communicate in, especially when I disagree with what is written there.

To "make mock" of someone for their horrendously stupid ideas is not racism, by the way, nor is it ignorant or stupid, but rather it is simply pointing out the ignorance and stupidity of the one that is having their position mocked.

So, are you saying that there are some europeans that are scared of Americans that put forth stupid ideas? I agree with that. There are alot of Americans that put forth stupid ideas that scare me too, and most of them are in the democratic party.

The only europeans that should be scared of Americans are the ones that think jihad is a good way to live, and that America, and Americans, are simply targets and infidels to be killed when found. But then, anyone that believes that, european or not, should rightfully be scared of Americans.

Unlike the french, we are not going to appease anyone and lie down and become a bunch of dhimmis.

We have a saying here.

Live free or die.

Guess which one we prefer?

Need a hint?

Ask the jihadis.

Oh dear. You're such an American. Know what the funny thing is? Those people that you are belitteling and making fun of sound just like those (and I'm saying those!) Americans many Europeans are scared of. How can anyone be THAT ignorant and racist and rather stupid!!?? Go ahead and learn to speak a foreign language fluently before you make a mock of non native speakers.
But on one thing I agree. This turkish movie is a little extreme. But then again so are American movies. It all depends on your perspective. Now you know what it's like to be the bad guys. Enjoy! -t-
