Turkey: Getting On My Nerves

Okay, I posted on the movie “Valley Of The Wolves:Iraq” a while ago and comments starting pouring in from our beleaugered ally. It turns out I’m a big meanie, oh well, I think I’ll live.

“A Proud Citizen” of Asshattistan writes…

You should say there is a freedom of speech as long as we like it! Last year, the West Wing had an episode of Turkish family who were going to kill their daughter, just because she wanted to divorce. The president of the US, save the young women’s life. Do you think this is really happening in Turkey? Well, I tell you, NO. Instead of swearing at you, we accepted the fact that some you guys are ignorant.

Um, okay, judging by his interesting grammar choices one would think he’d be a bit more familiar with his home country, such as say this…

Preachers Told to Condemn Turkey’s Honor Killings

State Minister Mehmet Aydin made his appeal after Turkish newspapers reported the fatal shooting of a woman on Friday by her two brothers as she lay in a hospital bed in Istanbul recovering from an earlier assassination attempt.

The papers said Guldunya Toren, 22, who came from the town of Bitlis in southeast Turkey, had been killed after giving birth to a child outside wedlock a few months ago. The Vatan daily said she had been raped by her cousin.

Reports quoted a women’s organization, Ka-Mer, as saying there were currently 25 other women hiding from male relatives in Turkey after receiving death threats. Ka-Mer said women could face death simply for failing to cover their heads.

Or perhaps this…

Father strangles 14-year-old daughter in Turkey’s latest “honor'’ killing

Ignoring the pleas of his 14-year-old daughter to spare her life, Mehmet Halitogullari pulled on a wire wrapped around her neck and strangled her — supposedly to restore the family’s honor after she was kidnapped and raped.

Nuran Halitogullari, buried Thursday in a ceremony attended by women’s rights advocates, is the latest victim in a long history of so-called “honor” killings, which Turkey’s government is struggling to curb.

The list goes on asshat, you got anything to say…I thought not. Moving on.

Cihan from North Jerkistan writes…

about the movie:
its comlpetely all about truth.it shows the american crime in our hoods.this is middle east man.get the hell out of here.this is our town

Reyhan from Lower Idiotstan shares this…

hey ım turkish..this film is just telling about truths..americans r killers !!get away from ıraq .stop this..if turks say something it ll happen soon..dont worry!!! IM PROUD OF MY NATIONALITY…GOD BLESS TURKS..

See “Honor Killings” above. Oh, and my buddy MasterGunner much prefers “Ice Cold Killing Machines.” Make a note of it.

Jenissary Aga who dwells in the delightful hamlet of Crackpipistan opines…

have you ever heard Kurtulus War, the war that the Turks get their freedom back from you, the first war made and end with a victory against imperialism which also resulted in a rebellion boycotts and finally freedom in other eastern countries in which yours bloody hands were on.

Our hands were on? Do you mean ‘Merica or just the mean ole’ West? Look, you got your ass handed to you back in the day, get over it, move on. But we/’Merica had nothing to do with it.

Just in case you had any concerns he might be sane he is nice enough to offer…

I think you also don’t know the truths about your country . The Truth is this; you destroyed your twin towers by yourself and named it as terrorism then kept your huge ass over and dropped it Middle east ONLY for oil…

Basarduran who inhabits a quaint cave near Buttheadistan has this to share…

You american people have less IQ and education than our children. The only working part of you is your mouth, brain is out of order. You r living in an unrealistic world.Wake up and see the truth. In addition dont talk about Atatürk without having a brain.

Uh-huh.

Trying to get in the spirit of the thing I offered this…

I think I can play this game too…

Q: How many Turks does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

A: I’ll tell you when they get electricity!

TrIceCold who shares a nice three flat with his gay lover on the West Side chimes in…

For ignoarnt americans only; no need to write how right we are how wrong you are. one example settles all the discussion on who is more barbaric. You dropped 2 nuclear bombs on Civilian cities in Japan to show your power. 135.000 in Hiroshima which was half of its pop back then and 64.000 people in nagazaki all civilian, women, children, babies in couple of seconds, not tanks, not soldiers. I think even if everything you say was true about Turkey, we still couldnt catch up with you in hundred years. and please educate yourselfs cos your government censors everything and you are not even aware of it.

You’re right! You couldn’t catch up in a thousand years, especially if you keep raping and then killing your daughters, though this may be some subtlety of Islam us decadent Westerners just can’t possibly understand.

Avenger brings us a message from the Religion Of Pieces (ROP)…

u.s. and brits committed horrific acts of violence in Iraq to better serve to their zionist masters…
u.s. is the enemy of Allah and his messenger. Allah can never be defeated, but He will destroy the u.s.
This is the final verdict…

‘O mighty u.s., you thought that you were strong, mighty and rich. You thought that you will never face fear, destruction and defeat…But all the things that you had fear of will strike you…You will suffer defeat, poverty, humiliation and finally destruction. It is because you over run the limits, spread injustice, filth and terror…’

Filth? And here I thought cleanliness was next to godliness?

Let’s wrap up this cavalcade of hits with this nugget from Moskit

The movie is about the facts. Why everybody is getting so upset?
America is evil. Bottomline. -Rus

Let’s just remind ourselves of what we’re talking about here. In the first Gulf War some Turkish special forces guys were embarrassed by our guys, our bad, rather it hadn’t happened, but there you have it.

So what do our asshat allies do in response?

They make a movie which features a Jewish doctor cutting out the organs from living people and selling them on the streets of major cities.

Ex-squeeze me, perhaps I’ve lost my damn mind here but what does that have to do with anything? Our soldiers are embarrassed…It must be the Joos!

This is not the hallmark of sanity folks, it just ain’t.

This just in: Mein Kampf bestseller in Turkey

“A lot of people in the West don’t realize this has always been a popular book among radical Muslims,” says Steve Hagerman, founder of Turkish World Outreach. “They think it’s a tragedy Hitler didn’t win the war. This is symptomatic of growing anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism in the country.”

These are our allies?

There’s lots more wackiness if you follow the links, I only scratched the surface here. I have feeling this post will generate another one down the road a bit.

  1. Oh dear. You’re such an American. Know what the funny thing is? Those people that you are belitteling and making fun of sound just like those (and I’m saying those!) Americans many Europeans are scared of. How can anyone be THAT ignorant and racist and rather stupid!!?? Go ahead and learn to speak a foreign language fluently before you make a mock of non native speakers.
But on one thing I agree. This turkish movie is a little extreme. But then again so are American movies. It all depends on your perspective. Now you know what it’s like to be the bad guys. Enjoy! -t-

  2. tina? US, eher at the Wide Awakes “make mock” of non native speakers?

No….we “make mock” of the stupid ideas that non native speakers drop in the comments sections of our sites. I wouldn’t dream of going to a site and leaving a comment in a language I am not certain I can communicate in, especially when I disagree with what is written there.

To “make mock” of someone for their horrendously stupid ideas is not racism, by the way, nor is it ignorant or stupid, but rather it is simply pointing out the ignorance and stupidity of the one that is having their position mocked.

So, are you saying that there are some europeans that are scared of Americans that put forth stupid ideas? I agree with that. There are alot of Americans that put forth stupid ideas that scare me too, and most of them are in the democratic party.

The only europeans that should be scared of Americans are the ones that think jihad is a good way to live, and that America, and Americans, are simply targets and infidels to be killed when found. But then, anyone that believes that, european or not, should rightfully be scared of Americans.

Unlike the french, we are not going to appease anyone and lie down and become a bunch of dhimmis.

    We have a saying here.

    Live free or die.

    Guess which one we prefer?

    Need a hint?

    Ask the jihadis.

  3. Yep Tina kender pretty much summed it up. If you actually bother to read the post, yes I gently chide these asshats for their grammar, but I save the big guns for their insane hatred of Jews and just general Muslim asshattedness.

Did you read the post. Are you cool with “Mein Kaumpf” being a best seller in Turkey? Are you cool with honor killings? Please, take a deep breath, release the multicultural bullshit that is preventing your brain from functioning properly and say with Jake.

“Not all cultures are created equal!”

Also, thank you, you’re goddamned right I’m an American and I apologize to no one for that little detail.

Also, If you’d bothered to read the post, I specifically mention that I don’t care if they hate us, make fun of us or cast us as the bad guy. What I do care about is they then naturally move from that to Holocaust type speech toward Jews. Again, are you cool with that?

    I ain’t!

  4. You don’t indicate the date the articles were printed from which you obtained these excerpts. With respect to the blurb on Mein Kampf being a bestseller Turkey you wrote “this just in” making it appear this is recent news. Its not. That little tidbit dates from around the early part of 2005 and Turkey banned a second or repreinting of the book around September of 2005.

In any event reading the book does not mean you are a card carrying NAZI, a sympathizer or merely antisemitic. Heck I’ve read the book and I gave a copy of it to my son for his birthday. Our interest in the book stems from an interest in WWII the European theater. The book is a facinating study of Hitler’s use of slogans and proverbial sayings to influence thinking and woo Germany. I once read an article which described it as a “political smoke-screen of phrases”. The guy was a master at it. I think it is one of the reasons why I now find such machinations of language to be so distasteful.

  5. Fair enough Carol,

I used the “This just in” ironically. It’s also less than a year old so I doubt much anything’s changed over there.

Also, when was the last time “Mein Kaumpf” was a bestseller in the civilized world? Are you really going to argue you think that has no bearing?

Read the goddamned quote! they think it was a tragedy that Hitler wasn’t able to finish his “final solution.” Are you insane? Are YOU sad Hitler wasn’t able to finish his final solution?

The point isn’t that you’ve read the book, but why you read the book. You read it to debate the fine points of political speech. Is that why they’re reading it over there?

I don’t know and neither do you!

    Also,

  6. Please don’t take the Lord’s name in vain.

You are right I don’t know why they are reading the book and I suspect that not all of them are reading it because they are interested in WWII or the fine points of political speech. They have a growing problem with fundamentalists. I don’t know if it is that their numbers are increasing or if they are just more active in making their presence known. However, Turkey is by and large a neat country filled with some pretty nice people. My husband and I vacationed there in December 2004. The few people that we had the chance to talk with at lenght acknowledged a problem with religious sects in the southwest area and the papers there discussed the problem. They are fairly secular in their approach to government even though the population is overwhelmingly Muslim. I like Turkey but saying that doesn’t mean I am blind to their problems. They definitely have some. I just hope that anti American sentiment does not become the norm rather than the exception.

I would like to see this movie for myself.

  7. Fair enough and I’m sorry.

I don’t doubt for a second that Turkey is a great country and i understand from those a lot more in the know then me that they have been a legitamite ally in the GWOT.

I’m just concerned that the entire Muslim world is headed into the pooper and we’ll have to pull up the drawbridges and ride out their descent into barbarism.

I think it’s running about fifty-fifty right now and that right there is enough to scare me.

  8. Please try not to throw the baby out with the bath water. As a Turk born in the US, I can inform you that there is a big difference in attitude between the ‘Amerikan Turks’ (mis-spelled deliberately) and the ‘Turkish Americans’ (newcomers from Turkey). The prevailing attitude here suggests that everyone believes this film was created by the Turkish government or that it was commissioned by Nazis. Of course you realize that it was made by a company in the business of making money. Read my recent take on this and I think you will get my drift. By the way, for those of us who haven’t seen the film to criticize those who have, is like putting the cart before the horse. I haven’t seen it myself, but it isn’t rocket science to understand that there are valid albeit incorrect reasons for the film’s popularity and success. Most notably, the best selling book “Metal Storm”. It’s amusing that many people are all bent out of shape when Americans are depicted as the villians, for a change.

    Comment by Amerikan Turk — 3/1/2006 @ 11:07 pm

  9. Amerikan Turk, plenty of films have American villians in them. Lethal Weapon comes to mind instantly, for example. What is pissing us off is the OUTRIGHT lies that are being taken for TRUTH in turkey.

    See the difference now?
