Vague reporting on Al Q riot at Pol-e-Charkhi

If you’re looking for pieces on Jack Idema and his team, please click on this link.

In all of these articles, there is not one single mention of Jack Idema and the two Americans who are being held illegally at Pulacharke. A few small American media outlets repeated the same reporting, and it certainly seems as though they’re relying on the same sources who are outside of the prison for ‘news’ instead of the real story that includes pictures and will soon be bolstered by video.

At Houston Chronicle “Afghan prison inmates riot; 30 people may be wounded” Feb. 26, 2006, 1:01AM Reuters

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN - Up to 30 people were wounded during a riot by inmates, including Taliban members, at a high-security prison in the Afghan capital, officials said today.

The unrest erupted Saturday night after a group of prisoners managed to hold two female guards captive, they said.

About 1,500 prisoners “are involved in this incident,” a security official told Reuters on condition he not be identified.

“It went out of control and a clash broke out between the prisoners, including many Taliban, and the police … Thirty people have been wounded,” he said.

Deputy Justice Minister Mohammad Qasim Hashimzai said some people were wounded, but he had no details.

Footage by private television showed police reinforcements being sent to the Pul-e-Charkhi prison on the outskirts of the city. Repeated gunfire could be heard and officials said that prisoners took control of one wing of the jail during the riot.

I believe this is from the same roto-Reuter report by Yousuf Azimy with additional reporting by Sayed Salahuddin, below. The numbers of the wounded seem exaggerated in their report, not to mention, this one says two female guards were held hostage by the terrorists.

RTE News “Inmates seize control of Afghan prison” 26 February 2006 10:13

The prisoners, 300 of whom are members of the ousted Taliban government, are understood to be refusing to hand over the injured for treatment.

An official said that certain inmates have taken some female prison guards hostage and are apparently threatening to kill them if their demands are not met.

The riot at the prison, some 10km from the centre of Kabul, erupted when guards distributed new prison uniforms which some inmates refused to wear.

Because a month or so ago, 7 terrorists escaped, blending in with ‘visitors’, because inmates don’t look any different than visitors–they haven’t been wearing uniforms.

Xinhua “Riot in Afghanistan’s central jail wounds 6″2006-02-26 16:15:30

….the inmates were demanding meeting the vice president, president of the National Assembly and president of the Upper House of parliament.

The reason for the riot apparently is the distribution of the new uniform to the prisoners, but the director of the prison, Abdul Salam Bakhshi, said al-Qaida and Taliban were behind the riot.

A large number of police and Afghan army troops have been stationed around the notorious jail to tackle with any possible untoward situation.

It is the third riot in the jail since 2003.

In the last one that took place months ago, seven suspected Taliban and al-Qaida members disguising as visitors escaped the jail.

They even ‘faked’ an ink stamp on their hands.

Santa Maria Times “Inmates Riot at High-Security Kabul Prison” By AMIR SHAH, AP

Mohammed Qasim Hashimzai, deputy justice minister, said at least four inmates were injured in the riot Saturday night but prisoners refused an offer for them to be treated. No guards were hurt in the clash.

Bakshi said the inmates had attacked guards and tried to force their way out of their prison block but were stopped. He said the inmates had small knives and clubs fashioned from wrecked furniture. They also set fire to bedding.

Yeah, they refused an offer to have them treated, and they set fire to their own quarters. Not very smart!

Reuters “Militants take over Afghan prison wing, 30 hurt” Sun Feb 26, 2006 10:20 AM GMT12 By Yousuf Azimy Additional reporting by Sayed Salahuddin ~Reuters

PUL-I-CHARKHI, Afghanistan (Reuters) - Taliban and al Qaeda militants took control of a wing of the Afghan capital’s main high security prison and at least 30 prisoners were wounded in attempts to quell the riot, officials said on Sunday.

Most say 6 injured, Reuters says 30.

ABC Radio Australia “Inmates seize control of Afghan prison block”
Last Updated 26/02/2006, 20:54:28

The justice ministry says the prisoners have refused to hand over the injured for treatment, while the male prisoners have also reportedly taken some women inmates hostage.

It is unclear what the prisoners want.

These reporters seem to be confused. I’ve seen reports that indicate that women GUARDS were taken hostage, this one says women INMATES, and in one report, it said they were in the women’s section of the prison. Seems as though they’re having a difficult time keeping their facts straight.

  2. Why would any of the articles mention Jack Idema? He isn’t central to the story except no doubt in his own mind, but then that’s just the way self-serving meglomaniacs think.

I have long wondered why you would take up Jack Idema’s cause. He is not a christian, has no apparent christian values based on the life he has led, and he is most assuredly not a patriot. He is a self promoting con artist with delusions of grandeur. His talents appear to be limited to his ability to curse, swagger, lie and sue. Okay, perhaps not that last one. After all most of his lawsuits have been unsuccessful.

A rumor floating around the internet is that you are a paid hack for Idema. Is this true? It would certainly explain how you came to be his number one fan despite the lack of commonalities. However, if it is true don’t you think you should add a disclaimer in your posts on this subject?

  3. Carol, you are ultimately clueless. There is no reasoning with you or explaining what the story is, so –I often wonder why you’re still posting here when John is uh–shall we say–Long time Gone–from The Wide Awakes!

I have the story from inside the prison, the idiots in the media have stupid reports and hearsay from outside. I think that is worthy of some consideration…

And you don’t think it’s important that three Americans are in Pulacharke prison with Al Qaeda staging a revolt?

Your opinion about Jack is completely off-base, as I’ve said before, but you’re so clueless about so many things, it’s difficult to respond to you,

As far as my being a ‘paid hack’ for Jack Idema, puleez. I am in support of all who fight this war on terror–especially people like Jack who did just as our president said and put aside his life at home and went to fight it with the incredible expertise he has. Nobody else can say they’ve just about caught or killed bin Laden 5 times…And oh, that part about Jack being a ‘hero in his own mind’…that’s a laugh, too. Jack is a hero to those who know him and those who know the whole story and haven’t been sucked in by the Mariah Blakes of this world. What I’d like to know is….have you ever met him? Have you talked with special forces people who have known and served with him?

It constantly amazes me how you’re an “expert” on everything and don’t acknowledge that there is another side to things other than that which you read in the media. It’s like you take all of that hogwash as gospel, even when the truth is sitting right in front of you–with facts and documention to back it up.

It’s no wonder your husband is in Korea, lol…it’s the only way the two of you could keep your marriage together!

0900 AM- KABUL TIME ZONE- PULACHARKE: As morning breaks, Afghan generals discover that the 80 women held hostage are being raped and beaten by the terrorists. The two female officers have been released, and once out the carnage begins. Al-Qaida and Taliban terrorists hold the women hostage with knives and bottles at the front entrance while others rape the women still in the block. It is unknown how many have been raped or killed.

1000 AM- KABUL TIME ZONE- PULACHARKE: Apparently, Karzai and the US State Department have interfered with the military response to the revolt. What we are about to tell you is absolute fact, and regardless of how hard it is to believe, it is true. At 1am last night, we said that the MOJ refused to let Jack lead a force in against the terrorists. Although the NA Generals refused to allow Jack and his men to be put a risk, they decided to assault the terrorists with batons followed by a wave of armed troops. THREE AMERICAN advisors sent by the US State Department and Department of Justice were now present, they ORDERED the NA Generals NOT TO ATTACK. The “American Advisors,” who probably know as much about Afghanistan as a car salesman in Wisconsin, were placed in control by American lackey Hamid Karzai. The American officials, while unwilling to enter the prison, or help, were giving orders from the rear outside area. Since the US State Department now runs Afghanistan like the Russians ran it (do what we say or go to jail or get fired), they were in control and wanted to “negotiate.” NEWS FLASH- You CANNOT negotiate with rabid terrorists. So the standoff continued into the morning.

1115 AM- KABUL TIME ZONE- PULACHARKE: General Sale-Bashi, one of Massoud’s best generals, along with Northern Alliance Generals Samad and Zorodin are now on site. They planned to again attack BLOCK 2 and put down the revolt. AGAIN, the US State Department and now the Red Cross decided they knew more than the Northern Alliance generals about how to deal with terrorists. The State Department, US Justice Department, and Red Cross “Advisors” called “the palace” and successfully stopped the assault. The Red Cross and State Department said they could negotiate a surrender. NEWS FLASH- terrorists don’t want to surrender, they want to die and go to paradise. The American government still fails to understand this mindset after five years of war against al-Qaida. There were now thousands of soldiers present and the situation was about to escalate into a full scale barricade hostage situation and revolt. We expect to have pictures and more info up in an hour.

END BREAKING NEWS- 03:00am Sunday US Time / 11:30am SUNDAY KABUL TIME

The revolt went back into full combat at around 12 noon Sunday, Kabul time.

  4. Carol,
There is a rumor on the internet that you are a paid concubine of Micheal Moore. Is that true? I mean, it is a rumor and all, so I guess there might be some truth to it, or perhaps that is just a bald-faced lie. Oh rumors…

    Comment by Duncan Avatar — 2/26/2006 @ 1:09 pm

  5. And Carol, that’s a very un-Christian-like attitude you display — why should anyone help Jack because he’s not a Christian? So in your version of Christianity the only people Christians are allowed to help is other Christians?

    Comment by Ogre — 2/26/2006 @ 2:55 pm

  6. Gee, where to begin. Reverse order I think. Ogre, my comment about his lack of christianity and values was made in the context of wondering why Cao would support him since my perception of Cao is that she is the kind of person who would in fact reserve her help for a Christian. I refer of course to voluntary help. If its a job its a different story.

Duncan there are a number of internet rumors flying around regarding Cao and her support for Jack. Quite frankly I thought they were too stupid to credit and not worthy of my mention. You apparently have no problems stooping that low. Do brush the mud off when you get through wallowing.

Cao, mee-ow! (Are you sure your handle shouldn’t be Catty?) I am well aware that you are getting your “inside scoop” from Jack Idema. You know the Jack who is being treated so horribly that he is allowed to phone in to radio shows from his cell and of course contact you. And no I don’t think that he is central to the story. He is just one prisoner among many housed in that jail. Now if he gets killed my guess is that will be considered news. I sincerely hope that he remains unaffected by the riots going on there.

I have never met Jack Idema. I told you that in my comment to your first post on him but I certainly have heard of him. I am from Fayetteville. My Dad was in the 82nd. I know quite a few SF both active and retired. I’ve never heard one of them make a kind remark about Idema and more than a few make disparaging remarks about him, although to be honest most of them just tend to roll their eyes when he is mentioned. They can be very closed mouthed.

I have no idea who Mariah Blake is. All I know of Idema I read in the Fayetteville Observer following his indictment and subsequent conviction many years ago for fraud. In Fayetteville, the home of the Special Forces, any news about anyone who is or was or who merely claims to have been SF is news, big news. In this case the news was not kind to him because he was a discredit and he made his hyped up claims regarding his service record part of the hearing. If Ms. Blake had a by-line on those stories I am afraid I failed to note it for posterity.

It would be hard to talk with any SFers who had served with him unless of course you are referring to some who may have served with him in a nonmilitary capacity. He is a mercenary, a soldier of fortune, that was his role in Afghanisitan. He was not in the military and he was not serving his country. He was serving himself.

As for “just about caught and captured Bid Laden five times” well whoopteedo. That is Jack’s version of course but even in his own version he failed. You don’t win any kudos for “almost.” You don’t get to collect any bounty either.

So I take it from your response that you are not receiving any money from Idema. If you are really doing this because you support all who fight in this war on terror then you might want to rethink your position. When thugs like Idema go to Afghanistan or any war ravaged country, the folks there do not make a distinction between the mercs and the military. Our military has to play by rules that Idema was not bound by. What he was doing was the antithesis of what our SF troops are trying to acomplish through a hearts and minds campaign. It isn’t sufficient that he ingratiated himself with some of the militia when he is going around roughing up the regular people. That type of behaivor breeds hatred and mistrust that our military ultimately has to deal with.

  7. Carol, what a perfectly religious fundementalist attitude of you….how very…umm….islamic sounding?…yeah…how very islamic of you.

    Comment by kender — 2/26/2006 @ 5:56 pm

  8. It’s no wonder your husband is in Korea, lol…it’s the only way the two of you could keep your marriage together!

Ouch, that seems to be hitting below the belt.

For the record, my coming to Korea had nothing to do with my marriage, and the fact that Carol supported my decision to serve here is I think indicative of the strength of our marriage.

Carol and I do not see eye to eye on much politcally, but in the grand scheme of things that’s not what defines us as a couple.

Anyway, I just wanted to make the point that getting personal doesn’t score debate points. I’d hate to think TWA now treats dissenting views like they do at Kos.

    Comment by John McCrarey — 2/26/2006 @ 8:06 pm

  9. Carol,

My point is that internet rumors are easily, and anonymously, started, hard to verify, and spread like a California wildfire. Mentioned them is more of a accusation that can be easily dismissed by the accuser when confronted by the accused…

    Comment by Duncan Avatar — 2/26/2006 @ 8:27 pm

  10. Carol what the heck does being a Christian have to do with anything regarding this. Jack Idema is an American for pete’s sake.
Do you only support Christian men and women that are serving our country? Do you only speak to, associate with, have anything to do with people that are Christians? It seems so, how pathetic for you Carol.

  12. Actually, John, I’m pretty sick of your wife’s personal attacks on me, i.e., that I’m a paid hack for Jack Idema, and taking swipes at Christians as though they’re Islamic extremists. Did I mention Christianity or the bible in this post? No, I didn’t. She’s not only perfecting the insult over here, it would seem as though you sanction it, defending your wife who is the one waging the attacks, which are simply unwarranted.

My comments about the MSM’s reporting have nothing to do with the inflammatory statements she’s made about me simply because I support Jack Idema and the WoT.

If she wants to behave this way, I’m sure she would be welcomed at KOS–they sound just like she does. And I’m sure, John, that in order to keep the peace, you make excuses for her and mop up after her messes like a dutiful husband, but nobody here at TWA has a need to do that.

Seems as though you’re losing your objectivity. I’m surprised. You had said she was a ‘big girl’ and she was perfectly capable of ‘defending herself’. Well let her do that and keep out of this. It would seem as though if she’s going to be free to make up lies like this about people she knows nothing about, (like Jack and/or me) it’s perfectly fair and reasonable to respond in kind….it merely points out the fallacies and tactics she uses in her weak and unfounded arguments.

She isn’t willing to accept an opinion that differs from hers, because she knows everything there is to know on any given subject–like Jack Idema–(just because she once lived in North Carolina, apparently). That’s why she sinks to the level of the insult, which is more like grammar school, IMO, and she’s a grown woman.

If Carol knows some facts that can refute what we’re saying, that’s one thing. But she can’t. So she resorts to inflammatory ad hominem attacks. Why she continues to hang out here and inflict this on all the writers at TWA while you’ve been gone from our ranks for quite some time- is anyone’s guess.

Here are some of the ridiculous lies coming out of the MSM about the Pulacharke riot:

10:00 PM- KABUL TIME ZONE- PULACHARKE PRISON: ACCURACY IN NEWS?
We are finding the news reporting across the world almost comical. Here are some issues we have:

    1. “The women are safe.” Hardly. They are ALL still hostages, raped, beaten, and some dead. Anything else is completely false.

    2. “Rubber bullets are being used.”
Comical. There are no rubber bullets in the Afghanistan unless ISAF or US MPs have them, and they aren’t at Pulacharke. All the bullets flying at Pulacharke are real bullets.

    3. “The situation is under control.”
Yes, it is. Under the control of the terrorists, who now control ALL but Jack’s block.

    4. “There are only about ‘20′ - ‘40′ - ‘50′ - ‘70′ terrorists at Pulacharke.” Depending upon which news agency is reporting it. Hogwash. There were 500 prisoners in BLOCK 2. All terrorists or Taliban, all political or national security prisoners, which means they were all terrorists. Of course they aren’t going to admit they are terrorists, they all just claim to be poor lost souls in the wrong place at the wrong time wearing a black Turban or a suicide bomb.

    5. “There appears to be a resolution in the works.”
Ok, we aren’t even going to touch this one with a ten foot pole. Can you spell B…U…L..L..E…T..S

Carol is so full of herself she thinks she knows better than the collective ranks of over 40 people here. It’s laughable.

She made comments above as though I were Jack…which, by the way…the idiots elsewhere have also said that Jack and I are the same person–some kind of eunich that doesn’t know whether to stand or sit down when we piss, lol…Simply ridiculous! If she can’t stand the heat, she should get out of the kitchen.

    Comment by Cao — 2/27/2006 @ 3:50 am

  13. Cao I am not the thin-skinned one here. I did not make a personal attack on you or resort to snarky comments. I asked a legitimate question because if you are receiving any money from Super Patriots or Jack Idema then what you are writing should be filtered through the knowledge that you are a hack for Idema. You do know what a hack is don’t you Cao? In case you decided it was derogatory, a hack is a writer who receives money to write a story. By that definition all journalists are hacks. I am not faulting you if this is a paid job. I just think you need to add a disclaimer to your posts if that is the case not unlike advertisements that use paid actors to endorse a product.

There is absolutely nothng in my post that indicates that you and Jack are the same person. No one thinks you are the same person. The JackLynn name is suppose to be a play on your names like Benifer and Bradolina or whatever that last one was.

The question as to whether you are receiving any money still stands and you have not answered it. Your response that you support anyone fighting the war on terror merely skirted the question. You can support Idema and still be getting paid.

Aside from commenting on your first post on Idema I have avoided making any other comments on your Idema posts until now. Instead of passing rumor off as truth I chose to give you the opportunity to respond and that Cao is known as a coutesy.
