Neither side to my knowledge was trying to convert the other. I've never had a Muslim knock on my door to discuss Islam with me in an attempt to convert me. I realize that in Afghanistan you had no choice under the Taliban but to adhere to their brand of Islam and I know that in Saudi Arabia Christian artifacts are banned but it seems to me that both of the extremists groups you mentioned are political religious groups. Groups that want power so that they can cement their brand of religion on everyone else but then that is why they are considered extremists. I am just not convinced that the Muslim religion is bad/ Rather I see it as there are bad Muslims.
