Meet The Fourth Branch Of Government

It amuses me to no end, to watch the leftist media perform their daily acts of prosecutorial politics. “George Bush is a criminal” or “George Bush is a terrorist” are two themes that have been used during the President’s tenure. It makes no difference what George Bush does or says, he somehow has violated every law on the books and evades prosecution in the spirit and manner of a mob kingpin. And although they do not directly make these kinds of statements, they certainly put on display front and center, people like Harry Belafonte, that do.

If that’s not enough, Dick Cheney is being seared for not being more forthcoming in the hunting accident, as if the world owed David Gregory an inside scoop. I mean let’s get real here. Is their a law that says the Vice President, President, or anyone else for that matter, has to beat feet to the press after a traumatic event, such as this? The Vice President accidently hurt a friend, the last thing he wanted to do was have everyone descending on him in a moment of grief and uncertainty. Maybe just maybe, the man is a human being and needed some time to collect his wits. Isn’t that the way most people that do not live in the public eye would handle it, too?

I tell you, it never ceases to amaze me how so easily distracted the leftist MSM can be. We have so many important issues on the table now; I can’t tell you when (if ever) there were so many dire situations developing. But what do they focus on?

Cheney shot his friend. Cheney didn’t tell us fast enough. Why is that? Why do they keep secrets? What else are they not telling us?

AC at Fore Left put together a post with some of the leading news services’ and outlets’ headlines, when the incident was first reported. Take a look at it and see just which agency was most accurate and objective in its headline.

Sad, isnt it?

If you had listened to the daily press briefing for the last two days, you would never know that Iran is still a threat. You wouldn’t know that muslims are still continuing their intifada over those damned cartoons. Pakistan hosted yesterday’s daily event. And you certainly would not know that Turkey, a country that seeks entry into the “peace-loving” EU, is becoming consumed with movies that carry strong anti-American themes.

This is known as straining at a gnat, and yet, swallowing a camel. This is nothing new for the media. It’s nothing new for the left. But leftists that dominate the media, forget one thing. Every man that has ever been President or Vice-President has been a fallible human being, one that was/is just trying to do what they feel is best for the country. The constant hounding, criticisms, and downright demonizations of the person that sits in the Oval Office, is unprecedented. Sure it has always gone on to some degree, but in this age, the bitter left has taken it to another level and the media that gives them their mouthpiece, has put all leaders under a microscope. There is no peace, there is no cooperation, there is only indictment and prosecution.

So, just how did we get to this point where the media has developed such an over-inflated sense of importance? Watergate. Bringing down a sitting President was very instrumental in developing the egos of today’s press, especially the White House Press Corps. Since that time, reporters have skewed, slanted, and even manufactured information to cast negative lights on those that sit in the Oval Office and other office holders. Just take a look at David Gregory, who made a royal ass of himself the last two days, in the daily WH briefings. Gregory got on his high horse both days, demanding answers as to why he wasn’t getting the answers he felt he deserved. McClellan had to put him in his place sharply by telling him, ” this isn’t about you”. And it isn’t. But Gregory thinks it is, because of the examples that have preceded him, a la Dan Rather (who ended his career in shame and disgrace).

But Gregory isn’t the only one. Just listen to a WH briefing sometime. Listen to all of the reporters that get called on. Whether it’s McClellan or Bush answering questions, they seek to bait and trap, unlike the old days when all they wanted was a scoop to sell papers. Their questions are meant to indict and prosecute, quite a departure from the old objective of gathering information for the purpose of communicating it to the people. Instead of reporting on policy, they try to affect it and steer it toward their own liberal biases, by picking up the most insignificant events and blowing them into something they are are not, just to get a reaction.

So, it is with great pleasure I introduce to you, the fourth branch of government, the media. They aren’t elected, they aren’t appointed, they don’t exercise a lot of responsibility, and have very little desire for oversight. But they are there, as a self-designated thorn in the sides of any and every one they choose. So much so, that much there are curriculums in many colleges that can lead to degrees in Public Relations.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge supporter of freedom of speech, thought, and expression. A free people needs a free media, to remain free. But with freedom comes great responsibility. I just do not see the MSM as being very responsible, these days. Someone needs to call them on it. Now, there is a blogosphere and it often does just that.

  1. Now that we’re finding out alcohol was served shortly before the hunting accident — and we’ve known for some time that Cheney avoided the cops for 12 hours or so — it appears the media has a reason to do their job.

If this were not the Veep, if it were you and me, we’d had a few beers, then shot a friend in the face — even accidentally — we’d be looking at some jail time.

No. We are not finding that out. What we are finding out is, you are merely advancing a rumor that has not been substantiated with any credible evidence or support.

  4. What we are finding out is that the media is very angry that a local paper was given first crack at the story making it nearly impossible for them to distort and contort from the beginning.

  5. You know if I was out with some friends and I had a few beers (mind you I hate the stuff but we are pretending) and I inadvertantly shot one of my friends spraying him with pellets, I don’t think my friends woudl be in a tearing hurry to tell the cops I was drinking while hunting or that I shot him for that matter. No there would be a trip to the hospital and the doctor would end of making the report. Being distraught I would require medication so I would be unable to talk to anyone right away and so forth and so on. So don’t give me that if anyone else but the veep stuff. Folks take care of their own and that includes friends.

I think the whole thing has been blown out of proportion. I don’t even like Cheney and I think he is being railroaded! Good gracious but I think the media can find something more newsworthy to report.

He said he had a beer. At lunch. With food. Tha accident happened five hours or so afterward. Plenty of time for the beer to have been out of the bloodstream.

  7. Ohhhh brother!

Maybe just maybe, the man is a human being and needed some time to collect his wits. Isn’t that the way most people that do not live in the public eye would handle it, too?

He shot someone! He should of stuck around to speak to the sheriff.

Let me ask you something, would you have been able to skip town if you had accidently shot your friend?

    Nope, you wouldn’t have.

  8. LA-LA Land,

I thought that “one beer” was only a “rumor.”

Let’s face it. No one drinks more than “one or two beers.” Just ask any cop who’s ever pulled over a drunk driver.

But you gotta wonder, if Cheney wansn’t drunk — what was his real reason for ducking the cops for 12 hours.

I mean, Cheney was twice convicted of DWI (or DUI depending on your state).

Maybe he was afraid the third conviction would cost him his drivers license!

  9. Steve,

    You write:

He shot someone! He should of stuck around to speak to the sheriff.

The sheriff was called. Where do you get your information?

Let me ask you something, would you have been able to skip town if you had accidently shot your friend?

This isn’t about me. Stick to the argument. You are making weak and faulty claims and offering no proof, to support them. I do not have time, nor do I have the inclination to spend a lot of time dealing with reckless accusations. Show us the proof.

    Ronald,

    You wrote:

I thought that “one beer” was only a “rumor.”

Okay, let’s look back at this. When you and I were first discussing it, it was a rumor. Since then it has been substantiated that he had one beer (by Cheney himself, at noon, the accident happend over five hours later. Well after the time required for the alcohol to leave the blood stream and well after the time for any impairment to be evident.

You and Steve are relying on unproven theory that the leftists (in which you adore) have had two days to dream up. You have no proof that Cheney was drunk all you are relying on, is conjecture. Show us the proof. Show me the proof and I will reverse my stance on this issue. Until then, I am not going to play a game of BS semantics and conspiracy theory.

Maybe you guys cannot stop at one beer, but there are many that can. I can, and there is nothing that I can see to suggest that Mr. Cheney can’t. So go ahead and use your illogical fallacies. Intelligent thinking people will see right through you.
