This is an interesting little tidbit of information regarding the 100th anniversary of our nation. This hymn was written for the 1876 celebration sung for a celebration of the Centennial Fourth of July, and sung at Brandon, Vermont. “National Hymn” written by George W. Warren, for the centennial celebration of the United States Constitution. 2 Chronicles 22:6 “God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven?”
God of our fathers
God of our fathers, Whose almighty hand
Leads forth in beauty all the starry band
Of shining worlds in splendor through the skies
Our grateful songs before Thy throne arise.
Thy love divine hath led us in the past,
In this free land by Thee our lot is cast,
Be Thou our Ruler, Guardian, Guide and Stay,
Thy Word our law, Thy paths our chosen way.
From war’s alarms, from deadly pestilence,
Be Thy strong arm our ever sure defense;
Thy true religion in our hearts increase,
Thy bounteous goodness nourish us in peace.
Refresh Thy people on their toilsome way,
Lead us from night to never ending day;
Fill all our lives with love and grace divine,
And glory, laud, and praise be ever Thine.
The more I stumble upon our country’s long history of rich religious heritage, based upon Christian moral principles, the more I am appalled by what the leftists are trying to accomplish by erasing it.
hehehe. I just love this part:
Be Thou our Ruler, Guardian, Guide and Stay,
Thy Word our law, Thy paths our chosen way.

One-a my favs. I’ve had fun making several arrangements for different musical groups for this, my fav being for an all-male chorus with brass. A strong text, great tune, well-mated.
