This is just creepy….

Apparently our friends from the land down under are reporting on some technology that belongs more in a movie like this:

than in the real world. But the medical breakthroughs that they are discovering are indeed promising when it comes to treating the severely injured.

SCIENTISTS have created eerie zombie dogs, reanimating the canines after several hours of clinical death in attempts to develop suspended animation for humans.

US scientists have succeeded in reviving the dogs after three hours of clinical death, paving the way for trials on humans within years.
Pittsburgh’s Safar Centre for Resuscitation Research has developed a technique in which subject’s veins are drained of blood and filled with an ice-cold salt solution.

The animals are considered scientifically dead, as they stop breathing and have no heartbeat or brain activity.

But three hours later, their blood is replaced and the zombie dogs are brought back to life with an electric shock.

Seriously. Creepy. Maybe if they didn’t refer to them as “zombie” dogs then I wouldn’t imagine dogs like these

However rather than sending people to sleep for years, then bringing them back to life to benefit from medical advances, the boffins would be happy to keep people in this state for just a few hours,

But even this should be enough to save lives such as battlefield casualties and victims of stabbings or gunshot wounds, who have suffered huge blood loss.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. And the implications of this could be far reaching. Not only for the short term effects but for those possibly suffering from longer lasting terminal effects. Have a problem with an incurable disease. We’ll just freeze you until a cure is found. Yeah, yeah, I know. Cryogenics and all of those wacky rich and famous people who paid ridiculous sums of money to have their heads frozen were off their rockers. After all, wouldn’t you get some sort of mental freezer burn and come out a literal “vegetable”. Maybe not….

Although the animals are clinically dead, their tissues and organs are perfectly preserved.

Tests show they are perfectly normal, with no brain damage

  3. The problem is, after the animals come back, they have an insatiable taste for human flesh.

  4. Cool technology. Interesting that it would show up on this site. I was sort of under the impression that this was a group that was not supportive of “playing God” with life and death.

  5. The drug, if it’s the same one I’m thinking of, doesn’t actually put anyone to death. They’ve been using this in surgery for many years.

The original “zombie” drug brought yor heart rate down to the point of being almost non-existant for surgery. It’s been around for years and years. Anyone remember the movie “The Serpant And The Raimbow”? Although the story may not be completely true, it was based off of the zombie drug.
