Hi, I’m The MaryHunter. (Don’t ask, OK?)
Age: 41 (last of the Boomers)
Location: originally a Nor-Californian, now smack dab in the middle of that thin blue close-parenthesis in the East.
Marital Status: she’s a freakin’ genius
Children: 2, they’re freakin’ little genius angels
Minivan: check
Y Chromosome: still functional but hopelessly outnumbered (even the cats are XX)
Occupation: involves words (a love learned from my dad) mixed with biomedical research (Ph.D. in biochemistry) but seldom numbers (they make me itch)
Most Watched Movie: LOTR (FOTR, TT, and ROTK, Extended Versions)
Best line: “Let’s hunt some orc!” (Aragorn)
Worst line: “A diversion!” (Legolas)
TV: 24, House, Brit Hume, Powerpuff Girls
Music: the six Bs (Bach, Beethoven, Brubeck, Beatles, Pink Floyd, early U-2)
Passion #1: The Significant OtherHunter
Passion #2: watching my little girls dance improvisational ballet to Swan Lake
How I Like My Scotch: at least 12 y.o., single malt, preferably from an island, one small ice cube
Soldier in Iraq: we adopted a sergeant
Favorite Presidents: TIE: Bush 43 and Reagan
Least Favorite (Freely Elected) Presidents: TIE: the three Cs (Carter, Clinton, Chirac)
Crusade: hunting trolls and slaying moonbats
Significant (Pre-Terri Schiavo+) Emotional Event: On 9/11, when I picked up my then-2-y.o. daughter from daycare and fought to not cry while telling her about the bad men who knocked down the two buildings, that THIS was why mommy and daddy were so upset. To this day, she knows the image of the WTC instantly, she knows who did it, and she knows that President Bush and his friends are working hard to protect us. She knows that 9/11 has changed everything.
Statement: I’m a reformed Clinton Republican (yea, I know, way mea culpa) who saw the error of his ways far too late for ‘92, but well before ‘96. As penance I thrust myself into the W 2000 campaign as a volunteer/poll watcher/Letters-to-the-Editor writer and humbly helped us get a win! (well, in my Red county anyway. The state’s blue as hell.) I believe in a strong military, a limited government, a tame judiciary, and the bedrock of morals and Judeo-Christian ethics upon which this great country was founded. I believe in the Trinity, in success from hard work and determination, and in Love.
Now, let’s hunt some orc!

Goodness! Change childrens gender and subtract one and we are the same person. I love House (TV show). LOTR’s (D&D player in my youth). Own lots of single malts (to include from the islands and enjoy them with 1 piece of ice. My wife has the PhD in molecular Biology. Your last paragraph describes me also, just change 2000 to 2004.

Excellent. Good to know.
Now what happened on House this week, I missed it for the first time!

Richard Nixon: DUDE!
Small frickin’ world. I’ll pour a Lagavulin in your honor tonight.
I too did D&D in HS, was a Dungeon Master as well (for a brief time-I was too controlling though). However it was the Significant OtherHunter (ALSO a PhD, biophysics and mol biol) who really drew me into Middle Earth. Now, I’m stuck, and so is my older (5 yo) daugher [we bed-time-storied the whole LOTR (book version) last fall and she’s dying to see the movies… not so fast tho.]
Your son does ballet? Don’t tell him you told us!
Ogre: DUDE!
House was one of the best yet this week, in writing (real prickly) and the ‘whom to fire’ conflict Dr. House is struggling with. This week the question was, would he seriously bend over for that fat bastard? The result was gratifying as it was tragic. Maybe there’s a summary here at the official House website.
Gosh, would Superhawk object if someone took to summarizing and commenting on House, a spin-off of RWNH’s great 24 columns? We should tawk…

The Art of Inanity
If you walked past the Corcoran Gallery of Art in downtown DC yesterday, you might have seen Melissa Ichiuji on a platform in front of it, barefoot, dressed in drawstring pants and a sports bra. You might have seen the…
