The Wide Awakes Rules of Engagement

The Wide Awakes bloggers and defenders welcome opposing viewpoints in the comment section of this blog. These views, at times, can and do have a positive effect on what we’re ultimately trying to accomplish. A well-thought-out opposing comment can force the poster, through further reflection, research, and investigation, to pose an even stronger argument. It presses us to learn more and become better in areas that we’re not familiar with. These differences also bring to light the commenter’s position.

And most importantly, we would like to show those who visit The Wide Awakes that the bloggers here do not fear opposing views, but rather, welcome them. However, as we all well know, there are those comments that cross the lines of logic, rational thought, and good taste. It is these that obviously will be deleted, and the commenters IP address banned. With that said, we will strive to make this a transparent process.

This should alleviate complaints from commentors as to how we are attacking their freedom of speech. This is our policy; let all commentors be aware that you have responsibilities and obligations when you are in this realm.

With the recent attacks from the left-wing press on conservative writers such as Armstrong Williams and Maggie Gallagher, it is important that we strive for directness and transparency.

We at Wide Awakes take pride in what we’re doing, and confidence, in our positions on issues. We do not fear views that are contradictory to ours, as a stronger foe will make us stronger still. That said, it is obvious that we should, as responsible citizens, make it more difficult for the leftists to continue pushing their weak rhetoric.

1. The Wide Awakes have failed to live up the their own rules of engagement. Eric is frequently neither logical or rational. Moreover and more importantly some of his comments have been in remarkably poor taste. I am disappointed.

   I didn’t see any research attached to this one.

   So, what it looks like to me and the other people I know, who follow your posts, is that by closing comments you ran with your tail between your legs. If you can’t take the heat stay out of the kitchen.

   Don’t ask for facts when it comes to God’s ablitity to love and forgive. We all know we rely on faith not fact when it comes to God. I’m glad God has such love and mercy because you sure don’t. You might but, you don’t show it. It appears to me you can use God’s words to back up a point, but you can’t use them to help others. That’s so sad.

   And yes, I know it’s a political based website, “i’m right your wrong protect our views from anyone who disagrees with us”, but the blog doesn’t do anything to help people.
   “God tells us to spread his word and his love; that’s precisely what we’re doing.” posted by you. This isn’t what your site is about according to the purpose statement. And it isn’t what you are doing.

   Maybe your last little huff was meant to make me look like a fool but it didn’t. And I think it was you who are “bugging”. Otherwise you wouldn’t have closed comments with you having the last word. The fact that you don’t get the ‘hint’ don’t accept what we offer in the form of ‘facts’ just reiterates for me what my points were.

12. Hello all! I just finished a book that I hope you will read: Warlord,by Ilario Pantano. He is a true American hero!!! It inspired me to write the Pentagon the following letter.

    My letter to the Pentagon:

    I am so angry and disgusted at how the Marines are being treated and charged in the Haditha incident. Why does the military throw it’s young warriors into the trash in face of fears of the media and public opinion? You do this over and over again. I’m sick of it!!!! These
    young warriors volunteer and train and put their lives in harm’s way for all of us, and you, their family, act as cowards and don’t stick up for them when a PR situation arises. Cowards!!! Stand up for them!!!! We are at war!! It is no time for safe, at home JAG people who are not out in combat to act all sanctimonious and judgmental about decisions made in a life and death situation. I am sickened and ashamed of you all who have been, and continue to be, involved in destroying the lives of
    these young men. How dare you?!!!! I just finished Ilario Pantano’s book and it shows the negligence of the JAG investigation that led us to lose a brilliant warrior in this time of desperate need for such men. He was finally found innocent. He should NEVER have had to go through what he did!!! I wish some of you fat cat, safe-in-the Pentagon types would go over and put your lives on the line with our troops before you cast them to the wolves. All JAG lawyers should have to do a combat tour to get some perspective. I am so proud of our troops! 14. Supporting the terrorists is what you mean. Ignoring that there is a terrorist threat is really an act of stupidity on the part of leftists everywhere, but it’s just like Bin Laden said: the interests of Muslims coincide with the interests of the socialists in the war against crusaders.
